SignWorks was approached by the owner of a local Tattoo Parlor who initially thought he might need a permit in order to update the sign In front of his business in San Leandro.  We assured him that if it was only the branding and name of his business that was changing and not the existing light box or sign cabinet, that replacing the faces would not require a permit as part of the electrical sign installation process.  We recommended LEXAN, a polycarbonate, because unlike acrylic, which is also used for this type of sign, the LEXAN would not shatter if hit by a stray rock or would it crack over time.  Once the owner placed the order our designer got to work on an approval proof and our sign maker visited the site to confirm the measurements.  We were able to order the double sided faces measuring 52” x 59-1/2” and have them pre-cut by our local supplier.  Making and applying the prints to the backer and installing the sign happened in fairly short order as you can see from the picture.

LEXAN or “sign white” as it is sometimes called, allows the bulbs behind the sign the shine through ensuring that the sign elements and branding are visible 24/7 and can attract passersby at all times.  Not only do lighted signs help to establish a brand identity, but if done correctly, they also allow potential customers and prospects to find the location.

SignWorks does quite a lot of illuminated signs in the form of illuminated sign cabinets and channel letters.  We also upgrade out dated sign cabinets and channel letters with new and brighter LED bulbs that are considered upgrades from older less efficient neon or prior generation LED bulbs.  The technology continues to improve and become more efficient over time.

If you are contemplating upgrades to a current illuminated sign or thinking of replacing or adding an illuminated sign cabinet and/or channel letters, please give SignWorks a call.  We can be reached at (510) 357-2000 and one of our knowledgeable team members will be happy to assist you.  More details about us and the work we do are available by visiting our website and viewing recent blog posts and project pictures.
