SignWorks has worked with a variety of clients, ranging from small commercial property managers and large construction companies, to supply Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signage. The Americans with Disabilities Act for Tactile & Braille is made up of a wide range civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability under certain circumstances. These laws address the lack of accessibility or access to certain goods and services which can be considered discriminatory, regardless of who it actually affects. As a result there is a need for ADA compliant signs because individuals with disabilities may not be discriminated against on the basis of their disability. The disabled are afforded the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, or accommodations that we have all become accustomed to.
And, there are a variety of options from inexpensive photopolymer braille and tactile signs, to acrylic ones, including those with metallic effects, to custom injection molded ADA with integral braille and tactile lettering. Typical production and fabrication for photopolymer and acrylic ADA is 3-4 weeks after approval of the SignWorks art proof. The injection mold process take a little longer and is usually about 30 days. We work with two primary wholesale vendors to supply ADA signs to a variety of clients.
In fact, our work in the ADA arena has included several large scale projects with lots of ADA compliance and fire signs, e.g. the 20 story building renovation at 75 Hawthorne Street in San Francisco. We also provided ADA signs and evacuation maps for the renovation work at one of the GAP buildings in Pleasanton. And, we worked with Turner Construction to complete the ADA signage for the Oakland Airport BART Connector project which called for several ADA signs and evacuation maps. In addition, we worked on apartment building renovations for Pacific West Apartment in San Leandro requiring several ADA signs and evacuation maps.
