SignWorks  was surprised to learn that revisions to two of the maps would be required.  The inspector who visited the site was not in agreement with what had been previously approved and insisted that two of the maps be revised.  Since the changes were minor, no formal approval process would be required but we needed to work quickly because the inspector was already scheduled to re-inspect the property within just a few weeks.  To ensure that we did not create any further issues for our client, we got to work on the revisions right away and fabricated two revised 14” X 14” evacuation maps with non-glare lens.  The client picked them up just two days ago and just in time for the re-inspection.

These types of maps show the egress route and symbols for extinguishers, pull stations and the like.  They are oriented from the perspective of the viewer which is very important in the event of a fire because the maps are diagramed to show the most direct exit path from the building.  The non-glare acrylic lens used as the map cover ensures the maps are legible even in smoky corridors when lighting isn’t always optimal.

As a local non-profit organization Lincoln provides a unique array of comprehensive services and programs for the Bay Area’s most underserved and vulnerable population. Their support services for children go all the way through high school graduation.  The programs also engage the family as well as the entire community.  Their approach focuses on disrupting the cycle of poverty and trauma by empowering children and families with integrated programs and personalized care.

SignWorks has several large evacuation map projects in house at present including a landmark San Francisco Hotel (183 floor/room maps), a redo of the Epic Charter School maps due to revisions in their floor plan (51 maps).  And, we recently completed the installation of 56 evacuation maps for a San Leandro Apartment Complex.  We are well known for our work in this area and several other smaller evacuation map projects are in house at present.  Our typical process includes a detailed site visit up front to minimize errors.   Once approved by the client we generate paper copies for fire department approval.  Once reviewed we incorporate any changes and fabricate the evacuation maps.
