Stud mounting can be used to add depth to a variety of sign types. Often they are used when a layer of glass or acrylic is being mounted over a print (or other surface) to create a two dimensional look. This added dimension adds depth, design flair and even a little drama to an otherwise flat surface. In much the same way stud mounts can be added to individual flat cut metal letters that are being mounted directly to a wall or onto an acrylic or contrasting metal backer board. The added depth is often far less expensive than purchasing thicker cast letters and the look can be simply stunning. Since the studs range in size from a half to four inches, you get to decide on the amount of projection you want.
Recently, while working on the Swan Way building renovation project, SignWorks used stud mounts and clear acrylic to create floor directories listing the tenants for each floor of the building. The “see through” layer added depth and dimension while protecting the lettering underneath from potential jokesters who might peel away letters in a tenant name in a misguided attempt at humor.
