Turner Construction — Oakland Airport BART Connector
SignWorks worked with Turner Construction on signage connected with the Oakland Airport BART Connector project.
Public transportation facilities require signs that serve many different purposes. Accessibility and life-safety information must be easy to locate, while materials need to perform well in heavily used public spaces.
SignWorks supplied signage that included:
- ADA-compliant signs
- Braille and tactile room identification
- Evacuation signage
- Building and facility identification
Working on a major transportation project also required SignWorks to coordinate its sign production with the larger construction schedule.
Alameda Point Developers — Storehouse Development
Our ongoing relationship with Alameda Point Developers demonstrates the wide range of signs that can be required within a large mixed-use property.
For the Storehouse live-work development in Alameda, SignWorks has supplied signage for tenants, residents, visitors, leasing activity, parking, and property operations.
The project has included:
- ADA tenant identification signs
- Evacuation maps
- Parking and safety signs
- Directional signs
- Leasing banners
- Dog park courtesy signs
- Signicades for open houses
- Custom plaques
- Monument-style leasing signs
SignWorks also produced a three-sided DiBond leasing monument along with directional signage for Saltbreaker Restaurant.
Instead of being a single sign order, the relationship has continued as new signage needs have appeared throughout the development.
HARD and Its General Contractor — Tennyson Park
The Tennyson Park project in Hayward is another example of SignWorks supporting a larger construction program.
SignWorks was selected by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) and its general contractor to supply three large cabinet-style post-and-panel signs.
The signs incorporated substantial 8-inch cedar posts and went through a lengthy design process involving several revisions. A late request to add address information created an additional delay before the signs could move forward.
After fabrication, the general contractor handled installation at the park.
This project shows how SignWorks can function as a sign supplier for a general contractor, providing the specified products while the construction team manages field installation.
BMW Temporary Facility — Fairfield
Not every large commercial sign project begins with a traditional general contractor directing the signage.
For a temporary BMW facility in Fairfield, SignWorks worked with site personnel and project management staff to address the branding and identification needed for the temporary operation.
Temporary facilities still need to look organized and professional. Customers must be able to identify the business even when it is operating from a location that may only be used during construction, remodeling, or relocation.
The BMW project included illuminated signage designed to maintain strong brand visibility at the temporary site.
Gap — Pleasanton
SignWorks has also supported a Gap project in Pleasanton, where communication was handled through project managers and personnel responsible for the site.
National retailers have established brand standards, so signage must match approved artwork, colors, proportions, and other visual requirements.
Projects managed by corporate construction personnel can require the sign company to respond to several parties while keeping production aligned with the larger project schedule.
This type of coordination has helped SignWorks develop experience working with national brands as well as local Bay Area businesses.
Phoenix Electric — Los Altos Hills
For Phoenix Electric, SignWorks supplied large DiBond project signs for work in Los Altos Hills.
Construction project signs often need to communicate information clearly from a distance while remaining durable during extended outdoor use. DiBond, an aluminum composite material, provides a rigid surface that works well for large-format graphics.
These signs are a good example of a straightforward product that becomes an important part of a much larger construction site.
DL Wholesale — Tracy
The DL Wholesale project in Tracy required a very different type of construction signage.
SignWorks provided a large exterior logo and dimensional lettering installed approximately 60 feet above ground. The design incorporated a half-inch ACM logo with half-inch dimensional letters.
The project also required coordination with the City of Tracy as the sign moved through municipal review.
High-rise building signage introduces additional planning considerations because measurements, attachment methods, installation access, and equipment requirements must be understood before the finished sign reaches the building.
