I recently visited the local Fleet Management Association and while I was thinking “fleet graphics,” I learned a lot about the challenges associated with scheduling multiple vehicles for maintenance, pre-sale painting associated with the sale of units that are being taken out of service, and understanding the limitations associated with changes to the “branding” or lettering that pre-dated the current fleet manager’s tenure. Often the graphics that had been used, whether a full wrap or simple door decals, were placed and approved by a predecessor and the current fleet manager may have erroneously assumed that there was little flexibility regarding migrating to a new or more updated look.

Often, corporate and governmental cultures have a way of appearing inflexible when it comes to redesign, even though the design decisions may have been made long ago and by others who have long since moved on. This is particularly true when it comes to local police and sheriff departments as it may appear that these previous design decisions were set in stone. In actuality they may be very changeable, especially when the color scheme and striping may in fact be outdated and changeable, especially if the new administration feels a new color stripe or other design change is warranted.
