SignWorks continues to produce a variety of signs, decals and banners for Trader Joe’s nationally, as well as several custom signs.  Most recently, we were tasked to assist this retail giant with signage for their parking structure consisting of over a hundred 24” wide by 18” tall parking restriction signs, four 24” by 24” red stop signs in heavy gauge aluminum and forty-four 24” by 36” PVC signs with various parking oriented messages.  This undertaking required us to use our partners Grimco (Traffic) and Halls rather than completely over burden our much smaller production team in Hayward.  Thankfully we already have all the Trader Joe art files, so the there was no approval process required, but the order sizes meant that the production cycle itself was a month long.  The last of these signs shipped yesterday for arrival in Miami by Monday, June 13.

Trader Joe’s has a well-established brand identity that has been developed over the course of several years.  The stores are very popular in California and I personally shop there all the time.  What’s not to love about this brand?!  Their products are well priced and I’m impressed with the large selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and so much more.

Joe Coulombe started Trader Joe’s in 1958 when he acquired a small chain of convenience stores around the Los Angeles area and he initially called them Pronto Markets.  After ten years Joe felt that the convenience store formula needed to be reworked and he decided to open his first Trader Joe’s store in Pasadena, CA in 1967.  Aware of the changing demographics, Joe decided to use his G. I. Bill benefits to get himself a better education which he used to deliver something very different.   The nautical theme he decided on has paid off in a big way and is used to this very day!  His team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas.” Employees at the stores are known for being nice, well informed and extremely helpful.  And, the bright, tropical-patterned shirts help in creating ambiance!
