SignWorks is happy to report that our evacuation map project for the 2501 Ivy Drive property, an apartment building, is finally complete. Our client, Lantz Properties, had delayed the project since no accurate core drawings existed. Working from hand written diagrams and drawings we were finally able to help in laying out the building core. We were also able to diagram the building shape and note the standard symbol elements like the egress path, stairs, alarms, extinguishers, etc.
Lantz Properties chose to manage the evacuation map approval process themselves and we supplied them with the copies they needed (2 full sized sets and one smaller one). After obtaining approval from the City of Oakland Fire Department and a review of the paper posted maps at the building itself, the fabrication process began. Using the required non-glare acrylic lens for all nine maps (as called for in the guidelines) we mounted the vinyl maps to this material using an optically clear adhesive. The 14” X 14” maps and lens were then mounted to a thin Styrene backer which made for a professional and finished look.
We are delighted to report that the client has entrusted us to work on yet another of their apartment buildings (on the same street) in Oakland and we are working to finalize the map detail and graphics on this new project as well. We are thrilled to have developed lots of experience in interpreting fire safety guidelines, especially in Oakland and San Francisco. We hope that when (and if) your building is tagged for fire safety signs or evacuation maps, that you will give us a call at (510) 357-2000. We will provide the technical expertise you need in this area to produce code compliant evacuation and stair signs.
