Alameda, CA – New Illuminated Cabinet Sign for the Police Department

Alameda Police Department Captain Don Owyang recently contacted SignWorks, Inc., Hayward, CA about updating an illuminated cabinet sign we installed in early 2015.

Cabinet signs do not have to be square or rectangular. For Captain Owyang’s original project, a cabinet sign in the shape of the police department’s shield logo was added to the existing channel letter sign spelling out ALAMEDA POLICE DEPARTMENT. Because the police department did not have the original artwork file, SignWorks began by reproducing the logo at the appropriate size for the sign. Then the finished artwork, scaled to actual size, was sent to one of our trusted wholesale manufacturers, along with specifications for materials, colors and lighting to be used.

While installing the original smaller cabinet, we also illuminated the existing channel letters with blue LED lamps for better visibility, especially after dark. Even better, the new lamps use less electricity and are long lasting, which reduces operating and maintenance costs.

This year, the department decided to replace the original logo sign with a larger one, designed to better fit the available space. The new 44” high x 36” wide sign was installed by the Alameda Public Works Department.
