The sign industry by virtue of its use of vinyl and poly carbonate materials not particularly environmentally friendly. However, there is a glimmer of hope when it comes to the use of eco-solvent inks for producing graphics. Solvent inks are non water based and made from an ether extract. This “eco-solvent” ink is used to print on vinyl which is used to create outdoor banners, vehicle graphics and wraps. The ink is extremely durable and is designed to withstand the elements meaning that the color is not washed away by rain or bleached out by the sun.

The term “eco” refers to the odorless, mild quality of the ink as compared to more aggressive inks. Printers, such as the Roland printer used at SignWorks, are designed to use mild solvents and less ink while still producing quality color and faster drying times. Plus, the manufacturer has a great cartridge recycling program!
