Why Site Surveys Matter

At SignWorks, we believe every successful signage project begins with solid groundwork. One of the key starting points? A site survey. This involves visiting the property, double-checking measurements, and mapping out the best installation methods. It might not sound like the most thrilling part, but it lays the foundation for a smooth and accurate sign installation.

Recently, we kicked off a new project with our longtime client, Maclaughlin and Co, a commercial property management company based in Sacramento. They oversee properties across California, including Wicks Business Park in San Leandro.

We’ve supported them before on various signage updates, and we’re excited to help with the next set of improvements.

New Sign Faces for Wicks Business Park

Wicks Business Park sees a steady flow of people and traffic. Having clean and clear signage makes it easier to find tenants and gives the property a polished appearance.

This time, SignWorks will be supplying and installing 16 new DiBond sign faces across the site. These are the custom-designed panels that slide into existing sign cabinets.

Step one: Conduct a detailed site survey.

Here’s what our team handled:

  • Walked the entire site to assess existing signage
  • Recorded exact dimensions of each sign face opening
  • Took reference photos to aid in production
  • Scoped out installation access points and safety considerations

Doing all of this ahead of time keeps the rest of the project running smoothly and helps avoid costly issues later.

What is DiBond?

DiBond is a long-lasting aluminum composite panel that’s perfect for exterior signage. It’s:

  • Light but tough
  • Weather-resistant and rustproof
  • Ideal for printed graphics and vinyl overlays

The finished DiBond faces will offer a clean, professional look and stand up well to the elements.

Why Property Managers Trust SignWorks

Maclaughlin and Co is just one of many companies that choose SignWorks for their commercial signage needs. Here’s why:

  1. We know what property managers need

Property managers want signage that:

  • Helps tenants stand out
  • Makes navigation easier for visitors
  • Is easy to maintain
  • Meets code and municipal guidelines

Our team delivers signage that checks every box, from clarity and durability to compliance and easy maintenance.

  1. We believe in planning ahead

Our site surveys help us:

  • Ensure precise measurements
  • Anticipate installation requirements
  • Deliver production-ready layouts

This gives our clients the information they need to plan, budget, and approve signage with confidence.

  1. We bring experience to every job

Here are just a few commercial signage projects we’ve completed:

  • Applied Materials, Sunnyvale – Replaced outdated address details using custom-cut vinyl matched to existing branding colors
  • Saltbreaker Restaurant, Alameda Point – Lobby branding and parking signs
  • Alameda Point Developers – EV charging station labels, safety instructions, and directional signage across newly developed tenant zones
  • Turner Construction, 75 Hawthorne, San Francisco – ADA interior sign package for commercial offices

Whether it’s one tenant or a large complex, we’ve got it covered.

The Impact of Proper Site Surveys

Skipping a site visit may seem like a time-saver, but it often leads to issues.

Without a site survey, problems like these can occur:

  • Sign panels don’t fit right
  • Installation access is overlooked
  • Mounting methods are unclear
  • Unexpected costs pop up

With a survey, you get:

  • Accurate fit and placement
  • Fewer surprises during install
  • Clear planning for the crew
  • Smarter spending by avoiding rework

Investing time in this step helps the whole project stay efficient and affordable.

What’s Next for the Project

Now that our team has wrapped up the survey and finalized dimensions, we’re moving forward with:

  • Artwork development using site photos and field notes
  • Fabrication of 16 new DiBond panels
  • Coordinating installation with the property manager’s schedule

We’ll make sure each panel is crisp, easy to read, and safely secured.
