At SignWorks, we’re proud to partner with skilled fabricators and signage professionals across California. A project that is in the works truly stood out and involves a high-profile installation for Total Wireless at their San Jose, CA location.
This project will feature an illuminated channel letter sign—designed to meet strict brand requirements and manufactured with precision to ensure both beauty and function. As a franchise, Total Wireless signage had to follow very specific guidelines, and our skilled fabricator was up to the challenge.
Branding Standards that Don’t Budge
Franchises like Total Wireless don’t just want signs that look good—they need signs that look exactly like every other location. That means:
- Exact logo reproduction
- Color matching to the approved palette
- Consistent font use
- Proper lighting for day and night visibility
Meeting these rules is essential to protect the brand and give customers a consistent experience no matter which store they visit.
What This Sign Will Include
To meet those standards, our fabricator built a custom channel letter sign using a mix of high-quality components and expert craftsmanship. Here’s a breakdown of what went into the sign:
- Energy-efficient LEDs inside every letter to ensure bright, consistent illumination
- 3M brand vinyl overlays for precise color matching
- Trim caps painted to match brand colors for seamless edges
- Aluminum returns and backs for durability and weather resistance
The final sign will not only follow the specs—it will look fantastic from every angle.
Why Use a Raceway?
To install the letters securely and meet code requirements, he will use a raceway system. This is a rectangular aluminum support structure that holds all the electrical components in one place. Why go this route?
- Fewer wall penetrations – Only a few holes needed instead of one for each letter
- Easier service access – Wires and power supplies are all in one spot
- Cleaner installation – Helps the back of the sign stay neat while the front stays polished
This approach simplified both the installation and future maintenance while still meeting franchise and city regulations.
Working Within City Guidelines
Even when a franchise has a clear idea of what they want, the local city has the final say. San Jose, like many cities, has strict permitting rules when it comes to signage. In this case, the permitting was handled by others, but our fabricator coordinated with the permit expeditor to make sure the sign met all technical specs required for city approval.
Because our team has years of experience working with cities, planners, and contractors, we’re familiar with these processes and always make sure signs meet zoning codes, building codes, and safety guidelines.
Collaboration Is Key
While SignWorks didn’t fabricate this sign in-house, we applaud our talented fabricator in managing the details. The project will be completed soon and our trusted fabricator handled all client interaction and site coordination. Our working relationship has been based on smooth communication, timely updates, and a finished product that will exceed expectations.
