SignWorks is working on a really exciting project! We’re helping a client in Tracy, CA add a huge custom sign to their high-rise building—60 feet above the ground. This is the kind of job that takes careful planning, top-quality materials, and lots of teamwork.
The sign includes:
- A logo/word mark made from ½-inch thick aluminum composite
- Matching ½-inch thick dimensional letters that spell out the company’s name
- A sturdy setup that can handle wind, weather, and the height of a tall building
This sign will help the business stand out—and look amazing from far away!
Gemini: The Experts Behind the Letters
We’re working with Gemini, a company we trust to supply the dimensional letters. Gemini has a great reputation for making letters that look sharp and last a long time.
Here’s why we like working with Gemini:
- Their signs are built tough and look professional
- Their quality is excellent, and they stand behind their work
- They offer a strong warranty, which we pass along to our clients
- Their letters are perfect for indoor and outdoor signs, big or small
With Gemini on board, we know the lettering on this project will be a perfect fit—literally and visually.
The Permit Puzzle in Tracy
Before we could even think about starting the build, we had to go through a lot of permit reviews with the City of Tracy. Some cities have a fast process, but in Tracy, it’s more like solving a big puzzle with lots of steps.
What We Had to Do
- Submit a complete design package
- Answer detailed questions from city reviewers
- Make changes to match city rules
- Resubmit for another round of approvals
- Repeat until we finally get the green light!
It takes time, but it’s important to get everything just right when you’re putting a sign on a tall building.
We Know the Ins and Outs of Permits
Dealing with city approvals isn’t always simple. Every town or city has its own rules—and they can change often. That’s why SignWorks is here to help.
Let’s be honest: permits can feel like a maze, especially if you’re new to the process. That’s where we come in. We help guide you through every turn and keep things moving.
Here’s what we offer:
- Clear and accurate drawings that meet local codes
- Regular updates so you’re never left guessing
- Fast adjustments when cities ask for changes
- Good communication with general contractors and city departments
We make the hard parts easier, so your project stays on track.
More Delays
Just when we thought we were finally ready to start making the sign…there was yet another curveball. The planner wants a more detailed description of the attachment method, including details about the studs and silicone being used to mount the sign elements to the exterior building facade.
Our fabricator/designer will address this issue and provide the planner with more details for re-submittal by our client.
Signs Like This? We’ve Done Them Before!
This isn’t our first time building big signs with dimensional letters. Here are some past jobs we’ve worked on:
- Geometer’s office/lobby sign – A clean, professional unlit sign with brushed metal letters and a geometric pattern accent that pops
- Saltbreaker Restaurant – A cool coastal restaurant where we created helpful signage for both staff and customers
- Top Hat’s lobby sign – Made of dimensional metal letters, this sign gives the space a modern, tech-smart look
- Downtown Oakland tower – A rooftop sign that needed strong materials and smart installation to handle high winds
Each of these projects taught us something new—and helped us prepare for even bigger builds like this one in Tracy.
Working with Contractors and Cities Is Our Thing
SignWorks is proud to work with general contractors, property developers, and government agencies. We know how to speak the language of construction, stay on schedule, and work within city rules.
Here’s what makes us a strong partner:
- Over 16 years of sign experience
- A history of getting permits approved—even for tricky sites
- A team that understands design, materials, and mounting systems
- A “let’s figure it out” attitude that keeps jobs moving forward
This Sign Will Be Worth the Wait
Even though we hit a small delay, we’re super excited about the final result. A bold sign that shows off our client’s brand from 60 feet in the air? That’s something special.
It’ll be strong, sleek, and sure to catch eyes all over Tracy.
