SignWorks has worked on evacuation maps for Creekside Plaza before so when the first-floor map was lost we replaced it based on the information we had. The problem was that the property management company had changed, and the maps had been redone with a smaller footprint than the maps we had produced originally. Because we had worked with the maintenance supervisor before, the approval process was smooth. Unfortunately, he did not catch the initial sizing error until after the fact. We worked with him to produce a new evacuation map sized at 14 inches wide and 11 inches tall so that it would match the sizing of the other maps throughout the building, and we did so at a discounted rate.
We work on many evacuation projects locally and are currently working on four evacuation maps for an out of state sign company whose national client is updating and remodeling their space in San Francisco. While the Maryland based sign company was comfortable producing the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) signs for the client, they were not as familiar with the San Francisco Fire Department guidelines and asked us to take on the evacuation map aspects of the project. Our designer is working on these lay outs now and we should have art files for review momentarily. While the guidelines used for San Leandro evacuation maps are similar, there are differences between these two jurisdictions as far as symbols, text elements and the like. Both cities require the use of non-glare lens which makes the maps easier to read when smoke is present.
Over the years we have developed some expertise with evacuation, fire safety and ADA signage. Some of our larger projects include evacuation and ADA signage for the BART Oakland Airport Connector project and ADA compliant signage for a few Oakland Unified School District schools. If you plan to renovate your building or build a new one, please connect with SignWorks for the ADA signs and evacuation maps you will need.
