SignWorks has worked on a few projects in Alameda, CA where the city follows the City of Oakland guidelines for evacuation maps. Our latest project was for Acro Murray and involved the production of six, fourteen inches by fourteen inches evacuation maps, complete with non-glare lens, in compliance with local guidelines. We worked directly with the construction company doing the renovation and our designer produced a flawless art approval proof that required no changes. While the installation was delayed because of fabrication and material delivery issues, it was finally completed and installed on Wednesday.

Arco Murray is a design build contractor that started its operation in 1992. The company uses proven design build methodologies in bringing their clients’ vision to life and ensuring a great client experience! Their team consists of in-house engineers, project managers and superintendents.  They services clients across many industries and coast to coast.

SignWorks has supplied evacuation maps for several owners and property managers in the City of Oakland and surrounding cities, so we are familiar with the guidelines. Furthermore, our designer has a background in GIS mapping and has worked on many similar projects for us. We consider him our expert and ourselves to be extremely lucky to have these resources in place!

Because our contractor was able to provide an egress plan and PDFs for the building core layout, we were able to produce the maps layouts in a very efficient manner.  Our designer dropped in the egress paths, and required symbols, and the client was already set with the map copies needed for the fire department to review and approve. Since there were no changes, we moved to production quickly and produced six 14” by 14” map prints that were then mounted to non-glare acrylic lens.  The installation is already complete.

Because of our expertise in this area, we tend to work on lots of evacuation map projects in Oakland and San Francisco. Our past projects include producing evacuation maps for several buildings and apartment complexes in Oakland and San Leandro, as well as for a Gap facility renovation in Pleasanton. Our work in San Francisco includes evacuation maps for several locations including San Francisco Muni, Victoria Secret, Hotel Castro and more. We have also produced small room evacuation maps for a boutique hotel in Palo Alto. Despite the differing guidelines from city to city, we have taken the time to familiarize ourselves with each of them.
