SignWorks continues to produce a variety of interior signs, decals and banners for Trader Joe’s nationally, as well as several custom signs. Most recently, we were tasked to assist the retail giant with signage traffic control and parking signs for their stores in New York, NY and Manchester CT. The two 24” by 24 “ Octagons with reflective orange and black sheeting (pictured) will ship separately and mount to the cast iron bases we shipped previously. While the two 12” by 18” custom branded red, black and white aluminum parking signs for the Connecticut location will be use to provide exit guidance in the New York store.
Trader Joe’s is a premier example of how retail branding works and they have a well-established brand identity that has been developed over the course of several years. Their stores are very popular in California and across the country and I personally shop there all the time. What’s not to love about this retail giant and its brand?! Their products are competitively priced and I’m always impressed with the large selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and more.
Trader Joe’s got its start in 1958 when Joe Coulombe, its founder, acquired a small chain of convenience stores around the Los Angeles area and initially called them Pronto Markets. After ten years it became apparent that the convenience store formula needed to be reworked and Joe decided to open his first Trader Joe’s store in Pasadena, CA in 1967. Once Joe became aware of the changing demographics, he decided to use his G. I. Bill benefits to get a better education for himself which he used to deliver something entirely different. The nautical theme he decided on paid off in a very big way and is used to this very day! His employees and team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas.” Store employees are known for being nice, well informed and extremely helpful. And, the bright, tropical-patterned shirts help in creating a wonderful ambiance!
