SignWorks has previously worked with the Operation Director at the Richmond Art Center who was attempting to place several new evacuation maps at various locations throughout the building.  Having worked with this client before we suggested that they reach out to the Richmond Fire Department for clarification as many of the added maps would not be required. In fact, the City of Richmond, like many city’s these days, has adopted the guidelines used by the City of Oakland.  Our company has supplied evacuation maps for several owners and property managers in the City of Oakland and we are very familiar with the guidelines.  As it turns out only two evacuation maps were required as a result of the recent renovations at the facility.

Our designer for this project has a background in GIS mapping and has worked on several similar projects for SignWorks.  We consider him our expert and we’re lucky to have him!

Because we already had the previous map layout on file we did not need the building core drawings and we were able to make the changes to the layout using the old maps.  Our designer dropped in the egress paths, and required symbols, and our client was set with the map copies she needed for the fire department review and approval process.  Since there were no changes required we moved to production fairly quickly and we produced two 14” by 14” maps mounted to non-glare acrylic with the installation completed last week.

We tend to work on lots of evacuation map projects and recently completed two sizeable evacuation maps projects, one in Alameda and the other in San Francisco.  Past projects include producing evacuation maps for several buildings and apartment complexes in Oakland and San Leandro, as well as for a Gap facility renovation in Pleasanton.   In San Francisco we’ve made evacuation maps for several locations including San Francisco Muni.  We’ve also produced small room evacuation maps for boutique hotel in San Francisco and Palo Alto.  Despite differing guidelines from city to city, we have taken the time to familiarize ourselves with each one.
