SignWorks continues to produce a variety of signs, decals and banners for Trader Joe’s nationally, as well as the custom sign pictured. When an issue arose at one of the stores as a result of an on-site inspection, we were asked to produce two signs that would bring the store back into compliance. We opted to use DiBond, an aluminum composite that has a corrugated plastic core with thin strips of aluminum on the outsides to produce these 8 ½” by 11” signs aimed at preventing loitering and the consumption of alcohol at the location. The material a light yet rigid surface that will hold up well outdoors. The lighter weight material also has shipping cost benefits!
Trader Joe’s brand identity is well-established and was developed over several years. Their stores are very popular in California and I shop there all the time. I love this brand! Personally, I find their products well priced and I’m always impressed with the large selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and so much more.
Joe Coulombe established Trader Joe’s in 1958 when he acquired a small chain of convenience stores around the LA area and initially called them Pronto Markets. After ten years it became obvious to Joe that the convenience store formula needed to be reworked so he decided to open his first Trader Joe’s store in Pasadena, CA in 1967. After becoming aware of the changing demographics he decided to use his G. I. Bill benefits to get himself a better education which he used it to deliver something different. The nautical theme he decided on has paid off in a big way and is used to this day! Team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas.” Employees of the stores are known for being nice, well informed and helpful. And, the bright, tropical-patterned shirts are a very nice touch in creating ambiance!
