SignWorks continues to produce a variety of signs, decals and banners for Trader Joe’s nationally, as well as the custom parking restriction signs pictured.  When we’re shipping from Hayward to Los Angeles we try to control shipping costs by using lightweight materials.  In this case we opted for DiBond, an aluminum composite that has a corrugated plastic core with thin strips of aluminum on the outsides.  This gives the material a light yet rigid surface that will hold up well outdoors.  In this case the lighter weight also has shipping cost benefits!

The larger private parking sign measures 4 ft. by 3 ft. while the smaller sign was an 18” square.  Signs like these help in directing traffic and enforcing the rules as it relates to parking and or entering certain spaces.  Our process involved engaging a designer to translate the pictures we were sent into usable art.  Once the proof was approved we got busy fabricating the signs.

We have been especially busy with many other Trader Joe orders and have produced and shipped numerous 12” x 5” DO NOT BLOCK and 4” x 18” Fire Extinguisher signs along with hibiscus decals to a variety of stores across the country.  Since we have all of the Trader Joe’s art files loaded onto our system, for these and other signs and decals, we are able to turn their orders around in a matter of days. Our art files include several banners, parking signs, posts, signicades, delineators, and more.  We also have an updated database which we check before producing store hour decals because the store operating hours vary by location.

Trader Joe’s brand identity is well-established and was developed over several years.  Their stores are very popular in California and I shop there all the time.  I love this brand!  Personally, I find their products well priced and I’m always impressed with the large selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and so much more.

Joe Coulombe founded the company in 1958 when he acquired a small chain of convenience stores around the LA area and called them Pronto Markets.  After ten years it became obvious to Joe that the convenience store formula needed adjusting so he decided to open his first Trader Joe’s store in Pasadena, CA in 1967.  Once he became aware of the changing demographics he decided to use his G. I. Bill benefits to get a better education and he used it to deliver something different.   The nautical theme he decided on has certainly paid off and is used to this day!  His team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas.” Employees of the stores are known for being nice, helpful, and well informed.  And, the bright, tropical-patterned shirts add a very nice touch indeed!
