We have always been partial to dimensional letter lobby signs mounted to acrylic backers for the same reason that many property owners request them.  It makes painting and updating highly trafficked areas and frontal reception walls a snap!  But the appeal of dimensional letters for company logo’s and names extends to the exterior of the building too.  A quick drive down busy Interstate 80 or Highway 101 and you will see a plethora of dimensional letters splattered across a sea of corporate high rise buildings.  These buildings all bear the name and logo of many large companies and corporate campuses, and in the case of established brands with an identity, they have well thought out color schemes and symbols as well.

And, the choices of materials, colors, fonts, finishes and size, mean that the choices for dimensional signs seem almost limitless.  For new companies, just developing a logo and attempting to establish a brand identity, it can seem like a monstrous task!  But working with a good designer, like the ones we have on staff at SignWorks will make the process more streamlined and your company will get a unique look that reflects their business and its characteristics.

We work a lot with a favorite wholesaler for these products.  Gemini  supplies us with state of the art dimensional letters and plaques that carry a lifetime pass through warranty which our clients benefit from.  The warranty policy speaks volumes about the quality and precision tooling that goes into these products.

Dimensional letters are custom made letters and logos that come in a wide range of materials, colors, sizes and thicknesses, from metal and acrylic, to formed plastic. A well-designed letter or logo sign, can be made of flat cut, cast or fabricated aluminum, bronze, acrylic or formed plastic, and provides a finished, professional look. They can be polished or brushed metal, acrylic, or plastic, in a wide range of standard and/or custom colors. Depending on the surface where the letters will be mounted, they can be mounted flush to a wall with high-tack tape or as stand-offs using studs and caulk. For an extra dose of prestige, Gemini letters can be illuminated signs on the exterior building or in an interior lobby.

Often, especially with older buildings, a plaque can be used as an identification sign inside or out, to memorialize the building’s construction date or a person’s important accomplishment or contribution to the organization.

We looked through our archives and decided to share the image of one of our favorite lobby signs with our readers.  The original sign had been made in Canada and we were tasked with replicating it for a branch in Pleasanton, CA.  We used ½” thick optically clear acrylic lettering and logo swoosh, we mounted these elements with brushed aluminum vinyl on the face of the logo and letters.  We applied a burgundy colored print (based on the client’s selected Pantone color) to the 24” by 52” backer.  Once the backer was ready we added the lettering to the backer.  This assembled lobby sign was then installed on the lobby wall using four brushed aluminum stand offs.
