Over the years SignWorks has worked with a variety of contractors large and small producing everything from project identification signs, interior ADA tenant signs and evacuation maps, to various fire safety, stair IDs and more. Our client list includes construction giants, Turner Construction, Cahill Contractors, Shimmick, Clark Construction Group, and small local construction firms such as Atkinson Construction, A-One Construction, Alameda Point Developers, Chambers Construction, FOCON and Silman Industries, to name just a few.
Sometimes our work involves working with our clients and reviewing large plan sets to isolate the sign specifications and drawings. Often, since the signage is usually one of the last items addressed by the architect, the signage information in incomplete and the specifications and quantities are unclear. At times our local builders are immersed in a renovation project only to get “tagged” by the Fire Department for lacking or outdated fire safety and evacuation maps. Since many sign companies are not well versed in understanding these guidelines, many of our clients are delighted to have found us and many continue to be loyal repeat customers.
We have enjoyed working with Turner Construction on two major projects. The first was the Oakland Airport BART Connector project in 2014 that involved lots of interior and exterior ADA signs, exit signs and several evacuation maps large and small. The other in 2017 was a 20 story building renovation at 75 Hawthorne Street in San Francisco where we supplied ADA tenant signs as well as the floor directories, evacuation maps and wall graphics for the interior stairwell and garage walls.
We have worked with Cahill Contractors and FOCON on several earthquake retrofit and renovation projects involving local schools primarily supplying the ADA tenant signs, exit signs and dimensional lettering for Lowell Middle School Modernization and Health Clinic signage, Calvin Simmons School and Fremont High School in Oakland. We have also produced exterior DiBond building signs for this client.
For Shimmick Construction we have supplied project identification signs and other post and panel signs in addition to supplying specialized braille signs for their end client MUNI that had to be certified by Lighthouse for the Blind. Other Shimmick signs have included reflective aluminum signs for their clients.
And, because Silman construction is close by, we have helped them rebrand their vehicles and supplied decals for their vehicles, equipment and hard hats. We have also worked with the company on their jobsite sign and on both the old and rebranded double sided overhead logo flags.
Suffice to say that our construction clients keep us quite busy! At present we are working closely with Alameda Point Developers and will soon be hanging their 10 ft. by 35ft. building banner aimed at leasing the mixed use space they have been working on in Alameda, CA. The custom “For Lease” blade sign is only one aspect of work we have been doing with them. For more information on these and other construction and exterior building signs, just peruse our website and blog posts.
