SignWorks continues to produce a variety of signs and banners for Trader Joe’s nationally, and we even do occasional custom signs that are not part of the standard catalog of signs we produce for their stores weekly. The Palmdale store needed to communicate to their customer’s some property restrictions at the location and needed two 24” X 24” signs in English and Spanish in a style reflective of the whimsical red and white floral theme used throughout store. Our designer worked from the pictures we were sent of something similar and created approval proofs which were later approved. Once approved we fabricated and shipped these signs (pictured) directly to the Palmdale store.
The last few weeks have been especially busy for us and we produced and shipped numerous 12” x 5” DO NOT BLOCK and 4” x 18” Fire Extinguisher signs to a variety of stores, including many to out of state locations. Because we have all of the Trader Joe’s art files loaded onto our system, for these and other signs and decals, we are able to turn their orders around in a matter of days. The art files include several banners, parking signs, posts, signicades, delineators, and the like. We also have a database which we check before producing store hour decals because operating hours vary by location.
Trader Joe’s brand identity is well-established and has been developed over several years. Their stores are very popular where I live and I shop there all the time. I love the brand! Personally, I find the products to be well priced and I’m impressed with the large selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and so much more.
Joe Coulombe founded the company in 1958 when he took over a small chain of convenience stores around the LA area and called them Pronto Markets. After ten years it became obvious to Joe that the convenience store formula needed some tweaking so he decided to open his first Trader Joe’s store in 1967 in Pasadena, CA. Once he became aware of the changing demographics he decided to use his G. I. Bill benefits to go after a better education. It was at this point that he decided to deliver something different and the nautical theme he decided on has certainly paid off! His team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas” and are known for being nice, helpful, and well informed. And, the bright, tropical-patterned shirts add a nice touch!
