SignWorks  has lots of examples of a variety of exterior dimensional letter/logo and interior lobby signs that we have fabricated and installed of the years, and it is something that we are very good at.  In this blog I’m going to talk a little bit about what goes into making a dimensional letter/logo or lobby sign that keep customers coming back for more.  As you already know, companies change their logo and branding from time to time.  This means that we often have repeat business when our company provided the last set of signs and things went well.   These updates to the exterior and interior lobby sign and other related signs are the reward if the job was done right the first time.  Plus, this is in addition to added signs needed as the clients operation expands to include even more locations!

A case in point is that our company has completed three lobby signs for repeat customer, Roadster for their offices in two San Francisco locations and one in Burbank where we had a sister sign company do the installation for us!  Another example was a branding change by RoseRyan in Newark.

It is always important to corporate clients that their branding remains intact, so making sure that the selections for font and color are exact and as mandated by their marketing guidelines, is crucial.  Setting correct expectations as to when the pre-production proof or artwork will be ready and making sure that you have a frontal picture from the client (along with the dimensions of the wall where the sign will be mounted) is also very important as typically the client will want to see what the mounted sign will look like to assess things like scale and/or to determine if the size needs to be adjusted.  As sign makers, we can assist with scale recommendations, but a rendering helps this process to be a visual one.  Having accurate information as to who needs to approve the sign is critical since the person placing the order may not be the same as the person who needs to approve the sign proof.

We pride ourselves in working with reliable suppliers who are essential if you are not producing the dimensional sign in- house.  Our most frequently used supplier is Gemini, a wholesale supplier that we have used since opening our doors 13 years ago.  They are the largest wholesale supplier of dimensional letters and plaques in the country and their products carry a lifetime warrantee. It is also important to remember that if the lettering and logo is being mounted to a backer that these will need to be ordered (and standoffs if needed) well in advance.   It is essential that everything needs to be in hand prior to the installation and/or scheduling.

As for scheduling the installation, it is important to make sure that a contact at the client site has been identified, as this may not be the same person as the one placing the order.  And, if the installation needs to coincide with a grand opening or other related event, we have to make sure that the client understands the relevant delivery and installation metrics to avoid disappointment or failure to meet our client’s expectations.
