SignWorks is pleased to report that working through a permit expeditor, we were able to get this project back on track. Once our client confirms payment of the permit fees we will be able to start the fabrication process. The non-glare lens have been ordered and are ready to be picked up. The project consists of 25 Floor evacuation maps measuring 19” by 14” and 160 room evacuation maps at 11” by 8-1/2”. The room maps will be made of laminated bond paper per the San Francisco Fire Department Guidelines for these types of properties.
The project first began in the fall of 2019 but was impacted by the Pandemic, is finally back on track. It is no simple task reviewing architectural drawings and developing the approval art for the floor and room evacuation maps. We began with a site survey that was completed in December of 2019 so that we could confirm such things as the egress route, location of extinguishers, pull stations and other critical map details.
The project requires a total of 25 floor maps, sized at 14” by 19” for the entry, stairs and elevators of the four story building. The use of a non-glare acrylic lens ensures that the maps can be read in a smoky environment when fire personnel may have to shine light directly on them to discern the fastest route out of the building!
With the fluctuating approval process changes at both Fire and Building Department and reduced operating hours, we engaged a permit expediting service to assist our client in getting the needed approvals. The service took the copies we supplied along with a set of reference plans and was extremely effective in getting the maps approved. The sign permitting process in both San Francisco and Oakland is quite detailed and both jurisdictions have varying guidelines.
SignWorks has worked on several evacuation map projects throughout the Bay Area so if you are ever tagged by the Fire Department in either San Francisco or Oakland, or if you’re looking to have your evacuation maps updated or redrawn, SignWorks provides excellent service in this area. We are familiar with the guidelines and requirements for compliance and have worked on several similar projects in both locales.
