Trader Joe’s uses a variety of different banners to communicate with its customer base and last week SignWorks was delighted to fabricate and ship one of our favorites to the Fort Lauderdale, FL store. This particular banner (pictured) is very colorful, measures 190” by 34” and is made from 13 oz. banner materials. Other banners, like the “Coming Soon” banner we recently shipped to the Long Island, NY store announce that a new store will soon be opened. Others communicate that the company is hiring, accepting applications, or will provide hours of operation. While we can’t claim to have designed any of these banners, we are happy to have all the art on file so that we can turn these banner orders around quickly.
And, as usual this week we will be working on several orders for interior directional signs and hibiscus decals for several stores on the east coast. We are also working on a separate decal order (200 each) of two different types, one 8” X 8” and the other an oval shaped one measuring 10” by 6”. These will ship on Friday, and we’ll post more details about this project later.
Our current library of art files include several banners, parking signs, posts, signicades, delineators, and more. And, Trader Joe’s orders are processed very quickly. In fact, we ship the majority of them in just a matter of days. Like many retailers, they use a variety of cut vinyl decals including red address lettering for store windows, as well as for the store name and operating hours which vary depending on the store location. We pre-mask the decals to make them easier to install.
Trader Joe’s brand identity is well-established and they have developed it over several years. They are extremely popular where I live and I personally love the brand! I shop there often because the products are well priced and because of the great selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and so much more.
The company was founded by Joe Coulombe in 1958. It all began when Joe took over a small chain of convenience stores in the Los Angeles area. He called them Pronto Markets. Ten years later it became obvious that the convenience store formula needed adjusting so Joe decided to open his first Trader Joe’s store in 1967 in Pasadena, CA. Once he became aware of the changing demographics he decided to use his G. I. Bill benefits to go and get a better education. At that point he decided he wanted to deliver something different and the nautical theme he decided has definitely paid off! His team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas” and are known for being nice, helpful, and well informed, and not just for their bright, tropical-patterned shirts.
