Trader Joe’s is keeping SignWorks very busy and this week alone had us shipping a variety of products to one of many stores.  The “Slide-In” style signicade we shipped to the San Diego store provides for lots of flexibility given the removable inserts that slide into place and are easily updated and replaced.  The deluxe signicades can be weighted with either water or stand and are made of a sturdy plastic material and holds two 24’ by 36” inserts.  And, Trader Joe’s is not alone in its use of this product which is a staple item for retailers, restaurants and many other businesses with a retail or commercial storefronts.

Signicades are used to market products, convey messaging to customers and prospects alike, and can be used for a variety of things ranging from communicating safety information like road and sidewalk closures or other restrictions.

Our week has included making multiples of the 12” X 5” interior “Not An Exit” signs, vinyl decals and aluminum parking restriction signs.  We also shipped 6 traffic cones to the Royal Oak, MI store to aid them in their traffic control efforts along with another 15 ft. by 34”, “Coming Soon” banner for the Long Island City, NY store.  As we have said before, we are delighted to have been selected as the sign vendor for this national retail chain.

The company has a well-established brand identity that has been developed over several years and the retailer is very popular where I live.  I shop there often because their products are well priced and I love the extensive selection of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, wines and so much more.

Trader Joe’s was founded in 1958 by Joe Coulombe who acquired a small chain of convenience stores around the LA area.  He called them Pronto Markets.  After ten years it became clear to him that the convenience store formula needed some tweaking and Joe then opened his first Trader Joe’s store in 1967 in Pasadena, CA.  He became aware of the changing demographics so he decided to leverage his G. I. Bill benefits and get a better education.  That’s when he decided to deliver something different.  The nautical theme he developed has certainly paid off.  His team members still consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas” and are known for their bright, tropical-patterned shirts.  In fact, Trader Joe’s employees are generally known for being nice, helpful, and well informed.
