SignWorks has worked with the folks at the Police Credit Union in the past and guided them through the process of designing their own since the City of San Bruno does not have a formalized program.  When one of the maps was damaged and the process thought to be a consequence of the VHB (Very High Bond) tape failing, we decided to step up and redo the map.  This time the installer will add silicone along with the VHB tape to make sure there is no further adhesion issue.  The 24” X 15” evacuation map with the non-glare acrylic lens was replaced this afternoon.

Typically evacuation maps will show the egress and such items as extinguishers, pull stations and the like.   They are oriented from the perspective of the viewer.  This is very important in the event of a fire emergency because the maps are diagramed to show the most direct exit path from the building. The non-glare acrylic lens is used as the map cover to ensure they’re legible even in smoke filled corridors when lighting isn’t optimal.

The Police Credit Union is located in San Bruno.  They provide banking and loan products, including checking, auto loans and credit cards to police and law enforcement professionals throughout the Bay Area.  There are other branches in San Francisco, Pleasanton, San Bruno and Oakland.

We are currently working on other large evacuation map projects which include a landmark San Francisco Hotel (185 floor/room maps).  Our redo of the Epic Charter School maps due to revisions in their floor plan (34 maps) is now on hold.  We have become fairly well known for our work in this area and we have a few other smaller evacuation map projects in house at present.  Our process includes a detailed site visit upfront and once the maps are approved by the client we will generate paper copies for them to take to the fire department for approval.  Once reviewed we incorporate any necessary corrections and fabricate the maps.

Let us know when (and if) your building requires fire safety signs and/or evacuation maps.  You can reach us by phone just call us at (510) 357-2000.   We will offer you the technical advice and assistance needed to comply with local guidelines.  Feel free to visit our website to look at some of our past fire safety and evacuation map project photos and blog posts.
