SignWorks was approached several months ago by the owners of a commercial property in Piedmont. The old exterior directory was in need of a facelift and the owners decided that some modernization was in order. They liked the appearance of other more modern looking directories done in brushed aluminum and decided that they would update the interior and exterior directories and wall signs, as well as the individual 10” X 2” tenant suite signs. The installation was delayed due to the current pandemic.
We first performed a site survey at the property to determine equipment needs and the logistics surrounding the installation process. As it later turned out, cementing the new posts in place would not be possible given the elaborate steel underpinnings from the old post and panel system. Because we were forced to tie into the existing system, we felt it necessary to add a cross beam structural support. We will add additional horizontal slats at a later date to give the directory a more finished aesthetic.
Once the client approved the art proofs for the directories and suite signs, we began the fabrication process and cut out the vinyl lettering for each of the suite signs, directories and wall signs. We ordered the brushed aluminum sheeting material for the suite signs and placed an order for directories and wall sign through our wholesaler, Clarke Systems. The fabrication for the exterior directory would take six weeks because of the anodizing process required for these types of signs.
Though this was our first time using Clarke Systems, we were pleased with the quality of the directories and the 41” by 6.3” wall sign we received. The company has been manufacturing interior and exterior architectural and wayfinding signs for 35 years. They work in tandem with many sign companies throughout the country and were highly recommended for their stylized yet functional and changeable directory systems.
