SignWorks continues to work with a variety of clients, many of whom select dimensional letter signs with and without their company logo for either the exterior of their facility or for an interior lobby wall. Over the years we produced letter as small as a few inches tall and letters as tall as 36”. In fact, we have an order in the works for an Oakland restaurant that consists of 30” tall white acrylic letters that are 3/8” thick, but more about that later.
We thought it might be a good time to review the material choices for this type of lettering as we believe the varied options are what makes this type of sign so appealing.
Metal dimensional letters can be flat cut (straight edges), cast with rounded or beveled edges or fabricated with and without a back. Thicknesses will vary based on the type of metal used and the height of the lettering. Metal options include aluminum, stainless steel, bronze, brass and copper, as well as a host of standard or custom paint colors. Metal finishes include brushed, polished, oxidized and patina.
Plastic dimensional letters come in laser cut (flat) acrylic, formed plastic, injection molded and in laminates. The laminate products are strictly for indoor use and consists of metal laminates mounted to either foam of acrylic. There are a variety of stock or pigmented colors from which to choose and custom paint colors are also available to match any corporate color palette.
Face lit and Halo lit lettering made from plastic, aluminum and stainless steel are also options depending on one of two favorite suppliers. Typically Gemini illuminated products are made in stainless steel or plastic, however, we have a California based supplier that works in aluminum as well. SignWorks often uses Gemini products since they are the leading dimensional letter wholesaler and their products carry a lifetime pass through warranty.
