About two months ago we were approached by Pacific Ridge Builders, a general contractor in Santa Clara on some additional renovations to the 20th Floor of the 75 Hawthorne building in San Francisco.  We were the original sign vendor when Turner Construction renovated the building a few years ago.  Our client sent us the revised core drawings and initially ordered four revised evacuation maps sized at 19” by 39” for the 20th floor.  Two were later resized to 15” by 33” and three additional ADA compliant exit signs at 6” x 6”, 8” X 6” and 14” X 10”, all in the building signage color palette of brown with white text were added.

We began the design process after reviewing the new core maps and researching the size variation for the stair evacuation maps.  Our client wanted these maps to be slightly smaller but still in compliance with the guidelines set by the San Francisco Fire Department.  We needed to adhere to the lettering, corridor and symbol sizing criteria which ultimately would dictated the size of the finished stair maps.  Once approved by our client, we ordered the paper copies (two sets of 11” by 17” scaled) for them to take to the Fire Department for review and approval.

We worked with our wholesaler on the custom thermal molded ADA (Americans with Disabilities) signs.  These custom ADA signs feature braille/tactile as an integral part of the actual sheeting material.  Since we are not installing the signs we’ll post pictures after the project is complete and the client sends them to us.
