SignWorks had been working with the Rossi Building property management staff who wanted code compliant fire safety signs and evacuation maps, but with a more contemporary flair. Finalizing the design took some time given the owners European design palette for the building, and the fact that they and their boutique architectural firm wanted something crisp and edgy. Ultimately, the 8 stair signs, each measuring 12” wide and 16” tall to accommodate the required text sizing, were done in a white matte acrylic with black text and they decided on a clean monochromatic look. The fifteen evacuation maps sized at 14” by 14” and also compliant with City of Oakland Fire Department guidelines and feature a non-glare acrylic lens. All symbols and text meet the fire department guidelines.
Our process included a detailed site survey but unfortunately, many of the fire safety elements were in place when we first surveyed the building which made for a lot of back and forth during the approval process. These details were later supplied by the architect and their internal designer. Once there was agreement, we supplied the full sized copies for our client to take to the fire department for final approval before fabricating their signs.
As you can see from the pictures the building is modern and edgy and the signage, though code compliant, does not detract from the overall style of the building.
