SignWorks has done a lot of work in this area work with clients who wanted frosted vinyl applied to their glass conference windows/walls to minimize the “fish bowl” effect.  Others have wanted privacy with a little bit of design flare, choosing to integrate a design element such as a logo to add some flare and capitalize on a branding opportunity.

Frosted vinyl is also referred to as etched glass vinyl and the degree of opacity varies.   Etched glass and/or frosted vinyl’s gives the appearance of etched glass at a fraction of the cost.  The look is reminiscent of rice paper partitions like those used in Japanese culture.  Several different textures are available and the film can be ordered in a light (fine) or dark (course) texture.  Depending on the manufacturer the vinyl has an outdoor durability rating of up to seven years, and even longer indoors.  It’s also possible to create a pattern be it dots, diamonds or hatches to make the film visually appealing.

Like everything else in the world of sign graphics, all specialty vinyl should be professionally installed.  It can be tricky to install if you don’t have professional experience.  Etched glass film with a wrinkle in it would not look so good, smile.
