SignWorks is pleased to be working with the Community Resources for Independent Living (CRIL) again, this time on an event banner. The banner was needed in a hurry and there were several changes needed along the way, including getting the pictures in a higher resolution so they would not be pixilated when enlarged to fit the banner. Also, the banner would need to be mounted into the client supplied banner stand.
As you can see the banner captures and chronicles the DANY conference and member events, including the youth leadership picnic. Event banners are a great way to promote events and create just the right atmosphere. They are used by businesses, community groups, schools and libraries to promote sales, sporting events, and book fairs or to create a photographic back drop for fashion shows and events. In fact, we’re currently working on a building banner project featuring four large banners that will hang on the side of one of the main buildings on the Oshman Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Palo Alto. They banners and images promote the broad array of services offered there.
CRIL, a community based organization was organized in 1979 by a small group of disabled individuals. They wanted to improve the range of choices and support services for clients with disabilities in Southern Alameda counties. The organizers based the model on one formed earlier in Berkeley that promoted and advocated for consumers living more independently. Currently there are 28 Independent Living Centers (ILCs) in California and about 200 throughout the country. Several of the laws related to the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) were promoted and influenced by groups such as these. The result is that people with disabilities have broader access to buildings.
When you’re planning for your next event banner be sure to think about where you plan to mount it. Will it need to be in a stand of some type, or is it attaching to a wall via hooks and grommets. If it’s a large street or building banner make sure to think about how the banner is to be held in place, whether it’s with rope ties or not. Wind vents are also extremely important or the banner will behave like a large wind sail!
