We worked with Turner Construction a couple of years back on the signage for a 20 story building at 75 Hawthorne Street in San Francisco. You can imagine our surprise when the commercial property management company contacted us and asked for the template used to prepare the maps. Evidently, some changes were being made to the 5th floor and they were already working with a separate designer or architect on getting the layouts done and managing the approval process through the San Francisco Fire Department.
Once we supplied the template, we assumed that Hines, the property management company involved would have the signs fabricated elsewhere, especially since they had not contracted with us to do the design work for the 5th floor renovation. Weeks went by so you can imagine our surprise when we received an email with the layouts for the three 5th floor evacuation maps and a request for a quotation from Hines.
Hines is global real estate development company that was founded in 1957. The company is privately owned and operates in 21 countries and in 201 different cities. They manage assets sized at $100 billion. Hines has over 100 developments underway around the world and has acquired over 1,200 properties. They have extensive experience across a broad array of risk tolerances and property types.
The Hines evacuation map project is complete and will ship today. The company is opting to install these custom signs themselves. Each sign is 15” wide and 24” tall using custom colors and fonts that result in a very upscale and elegant look. The original architects for the building renovation were very specific regarding the materials used and the color scheme. Consequently, the finishes are contemporary and edgy. We have included a sample photograph of the Evacuation Map from another floor of the building, since the new 5th floor ones are not yet mounted.
Often, evacuation maps take on a rather bland appearance but as you can see from the photograph we included, they certainly don’t have to. If you manage a commercial property in the Bay Area that is undergoing renovations SignWorks would love to work with you on designing custom evacuation maps that reflect the uniqueness and style you desire. Evacuation maps don’t have to be boring and they can have a little design flair! Feel free to browse our website and blog posts for more information about our company and what we do.
