Located at 669 Oakland Avenue, Black Oak Properties is a renowned management company in charge of San Francisco East Bay rental properties. One of the properties it oversees is a multiple-unit building on Bellevue Avenue. After reviewing the safety signage setup for this building, the management company decided that it was time to overhaul the stairwell signs and evacuation maps. This is when the graphic artists at SignWorks got the call for help.
ADA Signs for Property Managers in Oakland, CA
We visited and surveyed the property for needed signage and mounting locations. After discussing the signage requirements with the property management team in charge of the Bellevue Avenue building, our technicians learned that the company was looking for safety signage that would be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In particular, the signs needed were ADA stairwell signs and evacuation maps.
We handled the design and approval process for the client. We manufactured the ten 14-inch by 14-inch evacuation maps that detail an exit path out of the building in case of an emergency. The white backdrop of the sign helps the black printing to stand out. In addition, we manufactured nine 12-inch by 12-inch signs for the stairwells. To achieve the proper contrast, we used a brown backdrop color for white lettering. Two exterior aluminum “Exit” signs rounded out the signage suite for the scheduled overhaul.
Compliance and Common Sense
The signage solutions commissioned by the property management company comply with the requirements set forth by the Fire Department. They also follow the signage rules put in effect by the ADA. In addition to ensuring complete adherence to legal and local regulatory guidelines, the installation of evacuation maps and stairwell signs makes sense. Keeping residents and guests safe is a primary function of a property manager.
More than functional, these signs actively communicate to the tenants that the company takes their safety seriously and proactively works to ensure proper evacuation procedures should the need arise. Doing so highlights the care taken in the management of the building, which in turn makes it attractive to prospective tenants. Filling vacancies, another primary function of a property management company, will therefore be a lot easier. From this vantage point, the addition of safety signage is an excellent sales tool.
By the way, you do not have to limit your safety signage to EVAC maps and stairwell signs. If your building offers a pool, spa or fitness room for the use of tenants, there are additional safety signage needs that you may have.
