The submittal’s process during the construction phase provides a mechanism to ensure that the architect’s vision for the project whether for doors, cabinetry, electrical, signs or any other category is delivered and installed as intended.  On large projects like schools, the sheer volume of signs will include interior and exterior ADA signs, fire signs, restrooms, evacuation maps and an assortment of other signs and metal plaques.  During the early stages, especially for signage, the early drawings may not contain sufficient detail regarding the intended materials and sizing.  As such, when plans are revised and enhanced the selected sign vendor, will need to keep track of these size and quantity changes or changes in material assumptions, e.g. acrylic vs. photopolymer ADA signs.  These change orders will help to ensure that quantity and price changes associated with different materials and sizes are tracked and billed for as the project progresses.  Part of the submittals process will include supplying material samples, paint swatches and an assortment of product data intended to ensure that the materials meet various quality and manufacturing standards.  The process also includes supplying actual finished samples of each sign type.

SignWorks is currently working on two such large scale projects and working through the submittals phase for the BART Oakland Airport Connector project and for Calvin Simmons School.  The essential element in both projects is keeping track of all the details and staying abreast of plan changes, vendor deliverables and communication tasks to ensure that the project is moving forward without unnecessary delays.  We are excited about both projects and grateful to have been selected as the signage vendor.  You can learn more about our capabilities as a sign vendor by visiting our website at www.signworks.com, by calling us at 510-357-2000 or by sending an email request to info@signworks.us.com.
