Failure is no fun and this goes for a failed vinyl wrap too! In business the same is true and it can be the kiss of death when it comes to repeat business and referrals. However, it is also true that vehicle wrap vinyl can sometimes fail. The more common reasons for these failures are as follows:
Improper Surface Preparation: Â All dirt and oil needs to be removed from the vehicle surface so a trip to the car wash is definitely in order. Â Oil and dirt can lead to poor vinyl adhesion and/or bubbling. Also, the vehicle must be free of wax in order to ensure good adhesion.
The Wrong Vinyl: Wrap vinyl is not all the same.  Itâs important to make sure you are using the right material. Also, quality vinyl with the right level of adhesion will make for a better finished look. The problem with inferior material quality could result in bubbles, wrinkles and over stretching.
Avoid Over Stretched Vinyl: Skimping on or overstretching the material will result in a failed or poor quality installation. When overstretching happens it causes a whitening of the vinyl. Because vinyl is a type of plastic it has âmemoryâ and will want to return to the pre-stretched state. This will result in lifting.  It usually occurs in tight areas in and around bumpers and grilles.
Post Installation Heating: As we mentioned before, wrap vinyl will tend to go back to its original shape. These problem areas will need post installation heat to prevent potential failures. This is especially true around edges and in deep recessed grooves. The additional heat locks in the memory of the new shape.
Edge Lifting: It is important that the edges of the wrap vinyl are well sealed, especially around wheel wells, grilles, door jams, etc. Both post installation heat coupled with edge sealing helps to avoid this type of failure.
