A well maintained and properly installed vehicle wrap should last about five years and possibly a little longer if the vehicles are garaged and protected from the elements. Many businesses change their focus, enhance their product line or messaging or simply want a more current look. Here are a few things to consider:
1. Vinyl Wear Life. All vinyl’s have an outdoor durability rating from 1 to 8 years in most cases. If the vinyl has been used past its durability rating it is likely that it will start to crack, fade, peel or discolor. The longer it remains on the vehicle beyond its expected life, the more difficult it will be to remove and it is likely that the labor charges to remove it will cost more.
2. The Promotion/Offer. Perhaps the promotional offer that was featured in your wrap or vehicle graphics is no longer valid or you no longer carry the product or service that was being referenced.
3. Contact Information Changes. Did your business grow requiring you to move, add an 800 number, or change other information on the vehicle? These changes can sometimes be minor and done using a patch or series of patches. However, if some of the other factors as mentioned above are also present, then a more complete approach would be necessary.
4. Branding Changes. If the tag line or messaging surrounding your brand has changed or the color palate and/or logo has been revised, then it is essential that you revise your wrap or vehicle graphic to have branding consistency. The marketing materials and message should remain consistent.
5. Expanded Business Goals. Sometimes a niche emerges and your business is in the unique and welcomed position to fill it. Expanding your goals to include those of a market niche or expanded product line would make updating your vehicle graphics essential.
