An effective lobby sign is part of your overall branding strategy and it is the one thing that customers, visitors and employees will see when walk into your building. It should convey the quality of your organization in much the same way as the décor and furnishings you have selected. The look and feel of this particular sign will also set the tone for customer meetings, interviews and even the day’s work. As much as possible it should project a high end image.
If you have developed a logo and color scheme you will want to integrate these into your lobby sign unless you are going for a lettered look spelling out the company name in brushed aluminum or other metallic look. A skilled designer can help you to select from the many alternatives and color schemes. Be careful when deciding on the size. The lettering and or logo size should be appropriate to the size of the space. If it’s too large it will create a visual image that is overwhelming. Conversely, if it’s too small it may look cheap and inappropriate. Any lettering should have some dimension, so avoid flush mounting flat letters directly to the wall surface to prevent them from looking as though they are painted on. Either make the letters thicker or use stud mounts to add dimension to flat letters. Another alternative would be to add the letters to a panel and then mount it to the wall. Adding light, either from above, below or directly behind the logo and/or letters, can create an interesting visual effect.
